My name is Sheng. I am a bilingual freelance translator currently working towards becoming a certified medical interpreter. While studying abroad, I learned about Asian culture and the Chinese language and discovered a passion for it. While working as an intern therapist, I have had the opportunity to interpret for patients who do not speak Chinese. The interpretations usually go back and forth between English and Chinese Mandarin. Usually it takes place during a treatment session or an interview between patients caregiver and the healthcare provider. While off-site, I have accepted requests to translate medical documents from therapists. The knowledge gained from these experiences increased my accuracy in translation and also helped me establish a strong work ethic: ability to meet deadlines, requesting further elaboration of source material, reviewing the final product with clients, answering client questions throughout the process. As a translator and interpreter, it is my responsibility to be the bridge between parties; it is important to communicate past cultural differences and while maintaining the original meaning of the source language.
