Japan’s top translation application for iPhone and Android has been downloaded over 1.7 million times in Japan. On Februrary 18, they released a version for native-English speakers interested in learning Japanese. 

The application’s success has been attributed to its high quality English-Japanese and Japanese-English translations, in addition to its user-friendly interface and smartphone specific features.

"We believe that this app will help millions of Japanese learning users in English speaking countries worldwide. Japanese Translation is an app to support learning and communicating in Japanese which would lead to better understanding of beautiful Japanese culture," said Hideyuki Okada, the General Manager of Smartphone Business Department of Excite Japan Co.
