Google Images Now Have Their Own Dictionary

 

It may sound like a useless tool, but Ben West and Felix Hayes of London, have taken the term “dictionary” to a whole new level.  The pair recently created a visual dictionary with images from Google Images attached to each of the dictionaries words.  

The outcome is a 1,240 page long dictionary full of images.  For each word in the dictionary, they assigned a the first picture that comes up in a Google Images search result.  If you’ve ever used Google Images in a search you know how interesting it is to input a word or phrase to see what types of images come up.  

Technology certainly has a way of inspiring people to come up with new and creative solutions that allow people to learn faster. “Conceptually it’s whatever you make of it,” writes Ben.  “It’s really an unfiltered, uncritical record of the state of human culture in 2012.  I would estimate about half of the book is revolting medical photos, porn, racism or bad cartoons.”
