The Translation and Localization Conference 2018

In a world that is becoming increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, companies, organisations and institutions are more and more affected by sudden, unexpected changes in geopolitical and economic circumstances and the ubiquity of new technologies. At an international scale, it is often the Translator Ex Machina who saves the day. During The Translation and Localization Conference 2018, we want to focus on this particular main theme, emphasising the growing importance of the role of a translator surrounded by a host of different technologies, but also understanding how these gradual changes influence the profession and the industry. We are creating a platform for all industry stakeholders to discuss this theme, including freelance translators, translation agencies, professional associations, and translation buyers.

In particular, we will cover the following aspects:

Translator as a problem solver. How do translators add value when it comes to problems that cannot be solved by a machine?

Translation in a fully digital environment. How does the ubiquity of smartphones, tablets, online services, streaming and teleconferences make the human element shine?

Neural Machine Translation. What are some of the applications, how does it compare with statistical methods, are there any case studies?

Translator and technical tools. What are the updates on CAT tools, process improvement tools and time management?

Future of the profession in an increasingly complex environment. Where and how can human translators triumph?
