Psychology of Language Learning Conference

Intended Audience

Scheduled from June 23 to June 25, 202,  the Psychology of Language Learning Conference will be held at Cape Breton University. The conference will be tackling the psychology of language learning. It is open to all teachers and students of the psychology of language and language learning. Proposals from graduate students, researchers, and educators are encouraged.

What Can You Expect?

This is the fourth iteration of the Psychology of Language Learning Conference. This conference was originally scheduled for 2020. The conference will be discussing topics that are related to the psychology of language and language learning and will range from long-running ideas to current ones. 

One of the topics that will be covered at the conference is the various individual characteristics of language learners and teachers. Those characteristics include their self-concept and motivation. They will also have their own identities, beliefs, agency, and emotions. As such, there is a dynamic when it comes to how they interact with other people. The conference will also have a discussion about the question of practical classroom applications and interdisciplinary approaches when it comes to research. 

There will be a one-day Pre-Conference which will be held on the 22nd  of June 2022. The topic for the Pre-Conference is Mobilizing Positive Psychology in SLA and will feature speakers, Sarah Mercer, Tammy Gregersen, and Jean-Marc Dewaele.

Organization

The submission of proposals for the conference started back on May 15, 2021, and ended on September 15th of the same year. The notice of acceptance to the participants was sent out in October of the same year. There will be a Pre-Conference on June 22, 2022, and the conference proper will be on June 23-25, 2022. Participants with proposals that have been accepted for the conference that was scheduled for 2020 are allowed to update their abstract.
