Unconference is the polar opposite of the usual conference setting. Meaning there is no strict agenda, no PowerPoint presentations and no sales pitches. Localization unconference started in 2008 and has been hosting annual unconferences worldwide ever since in places such as Silicon Valley, Seattle, Dublin, and many more.
Topics to be discussed are voted and set by the attendees usually on the first day of the event. The whole emphasis on steering away from the standard conference format is to foster amiable dialogue between attendees and industry professionals.
Attendees will discuss issues, share insights and solutions relevant to the localization and internationalization industry. Ultimately, the event is to help foster professional development with one another and to strengthen relationships between colleagues—albeit in a differet and unique setting.
Participants are encouraged to relish the casual atmosphere that the unconference ‘format’ brings. However, the only agenda that is really planned for the event are the following activities; a translatathon, hackathon, and the actual unconference.
As for registration fees, attendees will be paying €39.00 per person but this is only meant to cover the joint dinner. If one decides not to join the dinner, then the charge will be refunded. In another words, the event is free!
