Intended Audience
The webinar is meant for translation practitioners who are interested in starting their own translation master class. This can be very helpful for translators who work on language pairs that are not as popular.
For now, the webinar is only open to members of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT).
What Can You Expect?
The Masterclass format has been tried and tested in the translation setting. It was first introduced for the French-English language pair in 2020. Since then it has been used for other language pairs effectively. This webinar will teach you how you can use the Masterclass resource in order to develop your skills as a translator.
The process is quite simple. An English text will be sent to the participants and they will be asked to send in their translations to the host. Once all of the submissions are in then the host will pick two or three translations randomly and use those for discussion.
The host will display the source text on the screen and the participants will be given the opportunity to go through the translations and suggest alternatives. The structure is meant to encourage the exchange of opinions and the exchange of ideas.
The webinar will be conducted in English and the presenter will be J. Angelo Berbotto, who specializes in Spanish-English translations.
Organization
The certificates for this event for PD purposes will be released two weeks after the event. The Zoom link for the event will be sent out two days before the event. Participants should use the name they used when registering for their Zoom to make sure the right name will be printed on the certificate.
The entire online event will be recorded.
