10th EST Congress: Advancing Translation Studies

What Is This Event?

The theme of this year’s EST Congress is advancing translation studies.

Now more than ever, inclusiveness and interdisciplinary approaches can help foster a warm sense of community in the fields of translation, interpreting, and localization.

These are times characterized by different degrees of confinement and isolation, but also by global challenges to worldwide communications, both human and machine.

Recent and ongoing global crises have necessitated special attention and new directions in many interdisciplinary areas at the crossroads of translation and interpreting studies.

These talking points and focuses of study include the ecology of translation; challenges on multiculturality; migration fluxes; intercultural mediations; gender and racial awareness in translation practices, new horizons for machine translation, emotional and cognitive aspects, identity perspectives, audiovisual translation techniques, and much more. 

What Can You Expect?

EST 2022 participants can expect a wide variety of panels, research paper presentations by leading academics, and engaging workshops.

Workshops will include:

• Emotions and translation: A professional toolkit
• Re-thinking Research Ethics: Decolonizing Translation Studies?
• Translation Studies and/in Wikipedia

Panels and papers will include:

• Crisis Translation: Ethical Issues and Training Challenges
• Public Service Interpreting and Translation (PSIT) in the times of a pandemic: the past, the present, and the future
• Translation policies and practices in multilingual settings: concepts, methodologies, and case studies
• Migration and translation at a crossroad
