Being of the same root as English and Hindi both, Lithuanian might seem to some non-native speaking listeners as a language that sounds familiar, yet also very foreign. Speakers of European or Indian languages might recognize some similarities in these common Lithuanian phrases:
“Good morning!” -- Labas Rytas (pronounced la-bahs ree-tahs)
“Thank you.” -- Ačiū (pronounced a-choo)
“Please.” -- Prašau (pronounced pra-show)
Notice any similarities yet? For these reasons, Lithuanian will be more easily learned by a student from an Indo-European linguistic background, rather than a native speaker of a language family related to East Asian or African languages. That doesn’t mean it’s easy to learn Lithuanian! Lithuanian translations are very challenging and require a keen eye for detail, which is the reason why Tomedes only hires native speakers for translation or interpretation.
